 Phyllis Schlafly оказывается написала книгу в далеком 1964, где описано как в республиканской партии, прямо как у каких нибудь сегодняшних демократов (читай: как у партии жуликов и воров), проходило воровство позиций  номинантов на кресло президента: "In other words, this book served as an exposition of the covert influence that “kingmakers” had on Republican primary nominations.".

 

Несколько интересных моментов. 

Оказывается, консервативной собственно частью у респов было только крыло Мидвест: "The Republican party had often been split between a conservative wing supported in the Midwest, and liberal wing from the Northeast."

 

Оказывается, Северовосток, где заправляли " liberal Rockefeller Republican" и было ядром, которое манипулировало делегатами. Орган этих "республиканцев" - Нью Йорк Таймс. Чудеса!

 

Оказывается, кингмейкеры проталкивали не кого нибудь, а самого Nelson Rockefeller и George Romney (догадались чей он папа?)

Мотивация у этих достойнейших людей тоже была самая достойная: "whose main motivation to run for president would be to "do everything within my power to prevent him (Goldwater) from becoming the party's presidential choice."

 

Chapter 12 of A Choice Not an Echo is titled "Anybody but Goldwater." In this chapter of her book, Schlafly focuses in on the work of the kingmakers' attempts to prevent Goldwater from securing the popular republican vote. For example, Schlafly references "The chief propaganda organ of the secret kingmakers, The New York Times," [6] demonstrating the tension between Goldwater and the Eastern establishment in the following sentence (extracted from a New York Times article written by Tom Wicker on August 11, 1963) : "The most bitter resistance to Senator Goldwater centers in the "eastern, internationalist power structure that for two decades has dictated Republican nominations. The members of that elite will not lightly relinquish their party to Barry Goldwater.

 

Итак, Северовосток - это либеральное, этатистское, полностью интернационалистское крыло партии, замазанное по уши в махинациях. Ну а поскольку "Throughout the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, Democrats maintained control of the executive office" - то закрадывается простая мысль: а не положили ли все эти ребята болт на республиканскую партию, после номинации Голдуотера (т.е когда их с треском опрокинули)? Не слиняли ли целым кагалом к демократам? Ну Ромни конечно не в счет - это троянский конь, он остался.
